History of Bernadette Tiongson Law Office – Foreigner Turned Firm

Bernadette S. Tiongson, Esq. brings over 25 years of international legal experience to light. Her under-appreciated noble profession of a lawyer, brought on her own all the way to America, is one few can dream of. These twenty five years of experience pays off in a thriving, foreign-run firm in the US.

Tiongson’s passion for a lawyer began at the Pontificial University of Santo Tomas, taking AB Philosophy for Pre-Law. She entered the law school afterwards, studying to earn a JD. She found herself in the real, legal world, working for Filipino business tycoon Emilio Yap’s personal legal team. Success came with her arrival to the business conglomerates of the Gokongwei family. These conglomerates, which she was tasked to defend, ranged from shopping malls to airlines. She also worked for major magazine publishers in the Philippines such as Manila Times.

Tiongson later immigrated to the United States, working for a law firm in Los Angeles, where she met her husband. The couple then went to Las Vegas. In 2005, she filed a petition to Nevada’s Functional Equivalency Committee to allow her to take the Bar Exam. “Nevada is very strict”, she commented in an interview with One Philippines, published in a 2014 newspaper. She passed the exam, establishing her own law firm. To this day, the Nevada Bar has no disciplinary record on her.

In addition to her own law firm, Tiongson has worked for a prominent law firm serving Southern California and Nevada as a legal defense counsel. This gives her experience of the legal system in court, counseling, and many other areas.

Now a happy, loving wife, she is the son of one daughter. Despite having immigrated from the Philippines for several years, she remains very fluent in the Tagalog language and fluent in her native country’s laws. The United States gives her greater opportunity to expand her brand and it’s goals.

“Being a lawyer is a very noble profession. You don’t see them advertising themselves on TV or on billboards because you have to abide by the very strict ethical rules imposed by the Philippine Bar with respect to advertising

– Bernadette S. Tiongson, “Leader of the Winning Team”. One Philippines

To support her clients on a personal goal, in an honest manner, is her goal. Not only must she take care of their legal issues but also “create rapport with a client”. In abidance with her country’s cultural ethics, she is obliged to bring support to her clients by interacting with them on a personal level, unseen by large law firms.
